Hotel staff pay in Arkansas after taxes: what you keep (2026)

The median hotel worker in Arkansas earned $27,790 a year in May 2024, which is $13 an hour for a full-time year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Half of the 2,670 hotel workers the BLS counts in Arkansas earned more than that and half earned less; the middle half of them sat between $26,870 and $29,570. That is the gross figure, before anyone takes anything. What you keep depends on Arkansas's tax, and Arkansas has a progressive state income tax with a top rate of 3.9%.

What the median hotel worker keeps in Arkansas

For a single filer on the median $27,790, taking the standard deduction and no other adjustments:

LineA yearA month
Gross pay (BLS median)$27,790$2,316
Federal income tax-$1,351-$113
Social Security and Medicare (7.65%)-$2,126-$177
Arkansas state income tax-$759-$63
Take-home$23,554$1,963

The state line is 2.7% of gross at this salary, approximated at 70% of the top bracket, which is where a middle income lands in most progressive states. Health insurance, retirement contributions and local taxes are not in it either; they vary by employer and by city.

Where Arkansas ranks for hotel worker pay

Of the 50 states, Arkansas ranks 46 of 50 on the gross median for hotel workers, in the bottom ten. The highest-paying state is Hawaii at $58,740 and the lowest is West Virginia at $26,590. Gross rank is not take-home rank: a state with no income tax climbs several places once the state line is applied, and a high-tax state drops.

Oklahoma$27,370$910$23,066
Louisiana$27,240$817$23,054
Mississippi$26,720$1,176$22,278

Missouri, Texas and Tennessee leave a hotel worker with more at the end of the year than Arkansas does; Missouri by about $3,914. Oklahoma, Louisiana and Mississippi pay less once tax is counted. Pay is one line; rent is the other, and a higher median in a metro with higher rent can leave you with less.

Where the hotel worker jobs are in Arkansas

The BLS count of 2,670 hotel workers is statewide. The metros with the most of that work are Little Rock, Fayetteville, Fort Smith and Bentonville, which is where the median is set and where the upper quartile ($29,570 and above) is most often paid. Employers who could not hire locally and have filed with the Department of Labor are listed on the Arkansas openings page; those filings are the ones already paying to bring people in, and housing or transport is often part of the offer.

Arkansas also has a program that pay people to move in: Life Works Here (Northwest Arkansas) (up to $10,000 plus a bicycle, for remote and tech workers moving to the Bentonville and Fayetteville region; runs in rounds). Each has a residence condition and a funding round; the amount is the program's own "up to" figure.

What people get wrong about hotel worker pay in Arkansas

  • Quoting the mean. The BLS mean for Arkansas is $14 an hour, pulled up by the top earners. The median ($13) is what the typical hotel worker makes.
  • Comparing gross across states. A $27,790 offer in Arkansas is $23,554 in hand; the same number in a no-tax state is $24,313.
  • Forgetting the employer's share of insurance. A job that pays $25,790 with full health coverage can beat one that pays $30,790 without it.
  • Treating the statewide median as the metro median. Little Rock pays differently from a rural county; ask for the figure for the place you are actually going.
