Delivery driver pay in Florida after taxes: what you keep (2026)

The median delivery driver in Florida earned $40,160 a year in May 2024, which is $19 an hour for a full-time year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Half of the 71,340 delivery drivers the BLS counts in Florida earned more than that and half earned less; the middle half of them sat between $37,280 and $49,330. That is the gross figure, before anyone takes anything. What you keep depends on Florida's tax, and Florida has no state income tax on wages.

What the median delivery driver keeps in Florida

For a single filer on the median $40,160, taking the standard deduction and no other adjustments:

LineA yearA month
Gross pay (BLS median)$40,160$3,347
Federal income tax-$2,835-$236
Social Security and Medicare (7.65%)-$3,072-$256
Florida state income tax$0$0
Take-home$34,253$2,854

Florida takes nothing from wages, so the only deductions are federal. That is worth $2,008 a year against a state with a flat 5% tax on the same salary. Health insurance, retirement contributions and local taxes are not in it either; they vary by employer and by city.

Where Florida ranks for delivery driver pay

Of the 50 states, Florida ranks 42 of 50 on the gross median for delivery drivers, in the bottom ten. The highest-paying state is Alaska at $52,000 and the lowest is West Virginia at $36,110. Gross rank is not take-home rank: a state with no income tax climbs several places once the state line is applied, and a high-tax state drops.

Florida$40,160$0$34,253
Georgia$42,950$2,229$34,265
Alabama$38,130$1,335$31,286

Georgia leaves a delivery driver with more at the end of the year than Florida does. Alabama pays less once tax is counted. Pay is one line; rent is the other, and a higher median in a metro with higher rent can leave you with less.

Where the delivery driver jobs are in Florida

The BLS count of 71,340 delivery drivers is statewide. The metros with the most of that work are Jacksonville, Miami, Tampa, Orlando and St. Petersburg, which is where the median is set and where the upper quartile ($49,330 and above) is most often paid. Employers who could not hire locally and have filed with the Department of Labor are listed on the Florida openings page; those filings are the ones already paying to bring people in, and housing or transport is often part of the offer.

What people get wrong about delivery driver pay in Florida

  • Quoting the mean. The BLS mean for Florida is $22 an hour, pulled up by the top earners. The median ($19) is what the typical delivery driver makes.
  • Comparing gross across states. Florida's zero state tax means its gross understates it against taxed states.
  • Forgetting the employer's share of insurance. A job that pays $38,160 with full health coverage can beat one that pays $43,160 without it.
  • Treating the statewide median as the metro median. Jacksonville pays differently from a rural county; ask for the figure for the place you are actually going.
