Sales in Alaska: licence, certification and what employers require (2026)

Alaska does not license sales professionals: no licence for most sales; insurance, securities and real estate are licensed separately. This page says what a sales professional licensed or working in another state has to do to work in Alaska, in the order to do it, and what goes wrong when the order is reversed.

How the transfer works

General sales roles are not licensed. Licensed sales (insurance, securities, real estate) follow their own rules. Nothing to file in Alaska for a territory or account role.

What to have ready before you move

  • A record of quota attainment
  • References

Start the paperwork before you give notice. There is no Alaska licence to wait for, so the only clock is the employer's.

What people get wrong

  • Accepting a territory before checking the base and the commission plan in writing

Who hires sales professionals in Alaska

Sales professionals in Alaska are hired by every industry. The metros with the most of that work are Anchorage, Fairbanks and Juneau. Employers who could not hire locally and have filed with the Department of Labor are on the Alaska openings page.

For the money side: the median sales professional in Alaska earned $59,800 a year ($29 an hour) in May 2024 across 760 jobs, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and Alaska has no state income tax on wages. What that leaves you after tax is its own page.

Alaska also has a program that pay people to move in: Permanent Fund Dividend (roughly $1,000 to $1,700 a year, for every resident after a full calendar year in the state; not a relocation grant, but paid every year). Each has a residence condition and a funding round.

Everything about Alaska, on one page

The Alaska page has the registries and boards, the income tax table, the programs that pay you to come and the openings filed this month. If you know which state you are leaving, the move pages compare the two directly.
