Sales in Georgia: licence, certification and what employers require (2026)

Georgia does not license sales professionals: no licence for most sales; insurance, securities and real estate are licensed separately. This page says what a sales professional licensed or working in another state has to do to work in Georgia, in the order to do it, and what goes wrong when the order is reversed.

How the transfer works

General sales roles are not licensed. Licensed sales (insurance, securities, real estate) follow their own rules. Nothing to file in Georgia for a territory or account role.

What to have ready before you move

• A record of quota attainment
• References

Start the paperwork before you give notice. There is no Georgia licence to wait for, so the only clock is the employer's.

What people get wrong

• Accepting a territory before checking the base and the commission plan in writing

Who hires sales professionals in Georgia

Sales professionals in Georgia are hired by every industry. The metros with the most of that work are Atlanta, Augusta, Columbus and Savannah. Employers who could not hire locally and have filed with the Department of Labor are on the Georgia openings page.

For the money side: the median sales professional in Georgia earned $63,050 a year ($30 an hour) in May 2024 across 45,810 jobs, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and Georgia has a flat 5.19% state income tax. What that leaves you after tax is its own page.
