Hotel staff in Alabama: licence, certification and what employers require (2026)

Alabama does not license hotel workers: no licence. This page says what a hotel worker licensed or working in another state has to do to work in Alabama, in the order to do it, and what goes wrong when the order is reversed.

How the transfer works

Nothing is licensed or transferred; hotel work in Alabama is hired on experience, brand training (Marriott, Hilton systems) and availability.

What to have ready before you move

• Brand property system experience listed
• References

Start the paperwork before you give notice. There is no Alabama licence to wait for, so the only clock is the employer's.

What people get wrong

• Assuming a brand transfer is automatic; franchises are separate employers

Alabama also has a program that pay people to move in: Remote Shoals (up to $10,000, for remote workers moving to the Shoals area (Florence, Muscle Shoals)). Each has a residence condition and a funding round.
