What the work involves
SOC 45-2092 accounts for 100% of the work performed. Workers prepare the corn fields by clearing planting areas of weeds, rocks, roots, and crop debris, then they prepare the fields and plant the crop, apply the correct herbicides, and do weed control and fence maintenance around the fields as the season progresses. They help do maintenance on the machinery before, during, and after harvests, then harvest corn and transport it to the storage facility, where the crop is tested for moisture and, when needed, dried or put under air. Alongside the crop work, employees administer vaccines, implants, and vitamins to new crop cattle, identify and record cattle, monitor and feed cattle, and administer appropriate medication if needed. They also fix and maintain pasture fences and keep automatic waters in working and clean condition, monitor cattle daily while they are in pastures, rotate cattle to new pastures as needed, and provide fly control as needed. In late September, cattle are started on a TMR ration in combination with pasture to get them in condition to sell, after which they are loaded and sold at the auction barn, and the facility is closed up until the next season. The employer, at its sole discretion, may grant pay increases based on factors such as performance, longevity, and/or experience. Workers returning for a consecutive season will be paid at their previous season’s rate if that rate exceeds the current published rate. Employer will conduct post-hire drug tests at no cost to the employee to enforce a drug free workplace policy. Failing a drug test will result in termination.
