What the work involves

Workers will remove the employer’s harvested root vegetables and other stored vegetables from on-farm cold-storage rooms in the quantities needed for each market day and wholesale order; wash, trim, grade, and sort produce; pack produce into retail and wholesale containers; weigh, label, and stack packed product; and stage and load packed produce for delivery. Workers will deliver produce from the farm to the employer’s farmers market location and to wholesale buyers or carriers using a box truck. Workers will operate a forklift and utility vehicle to move bins and pallets between cold-storage rooms, the wash and pack area, and the loading point, and will keep cold-storage rooms, wash line, and packing areas clean. Daily duties may vary depending on inventory, market orders, and weather. The employer reserves the right to increase workers’ pay or provide bonuses based on tenure, performance, or other factors that are solely based on the discretion of the employer.

How the work permit works in the United States

Employer-sponsored temporary or permanent labor certification. The employer files with the Department of Labor first. Which programme applies depends on the work and whether it is seasonal.
