What the work involves

This position involves comprehensive orchard and field management responsibilities. Workers will maintain apple trees through pruning with hand pruners and saws, including ladder work. Additional duties include installing, repairing, and constructing trellises for newly planted apple trees, as well as planting and training trees. Fruit management tasks encompass hand-thinning apples using specialized shears and hand-grafting apple trees. Workers may also clear land of rocks and debris and plant strawberry crops. Irrigation system installation and relocation may be required, along with hand cultivation of pumpkin and strawberry fields. Harvesting responsibilities include hand-picking apples, pears, and plums using picking bags while working from ladders, as well as hand-harvesting strawberries and pumpkins. Post-harvest duties involve hand-packing and sorting apples, with potential requirements to clean and sanitize harvest bins. The role demands the ability to stand and walk for extended periods in challenging weather conditions while safely using sharp instruments, hand tools, and ladder work. Workers are subject to drug screening following any accident, incident, or reasonable suspicion. Failure to comply with or refusal of drug screening results in immediate termination. All drug screening costs are covered by the employer.
