What the work involves
Field workers will perform agricultural duties related to the harvesting of organic and conventional celery. Duties include cutting, trimming, bunching, packing, and loading freshly harvested celery in the field. Workers will use harvesting knives and their hands to cut celery stalks at the base, separate them from the roots, and remove outer stalks and excess leaves to prepare the celery for packing. Harvesting duties require repetitive bending at the waist, reaching, standing, and handling celery throughout the workday. Workers will sort, bunch, and pack harvested celery into cartons, totes, or bins according to established quality standards and packing requirements. Workers may perform these duties in the field or on harvesting machines and assist with loading packed celery as directed by the supervisor. Additional duties include cleaning and maintaining harvesting tools, equipment, and work areas; assisting with general yard maintenance; and following established food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures. Workers must follow supervisor instructions and applicable procedures for handling organic and conventional crops to prevent cross contamination.
