Office pay in Georgia after taxes: what you keep (2026)

The median administrative assistant in Georgia earned $39,220 a year in May 2024, which is $19 an hour for a full-time year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Half of the 49,870 administrative assistants the BLS counts in Georgia earned more than that and half earned less; the middle half of them sat between $30,480 and $49,180. That is the gross figure, before anyone takes anything. What you keep depends on Georgia's tax, and Georgia has a flat 5.19% state income tax.

What the median administrative assistant keeps in Georgia

For a single filer on the median $39,220, taking the standard deduction and no other adjustments:

LineA yearA month
Gross pay (BLS median)$39,220$3,268
Federal income tax-$2,722-$227
Social Security and Medicare (7.65%)-$3,000-$250
Georgia state income tax-$2,036-$170
Take-home$31,462$2,622

The state line is 5.2% of gross at this salary. Health insurance, retirement contributions and local taxes are not in it either; they vary by employer and by city.

Where Georgia ranks for administrative assistant pay

Of the 50 states, Georgia ranks 44 of 50 on the gross median for administrative assistants, in the bottom ten. The highest-paying state is Connecticut at $55,690 and the lowest is Mississippi at $36,000. Gross rank is not take-home rank: a state with no income tax climbs several places once the state line is applied, and a high-tax state drops.

South Carolina$41,720$1,811$33,695
Alabama$40,200$1,407$32,878

Florida, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina and Alabama leave an administrative assistant with more at the end of the year than Georgia does; Florida by about $5,595. Pay is one line; rent is the other, and a higher median in a metro with higher rent can leave you with less.

Where the administrative assistant jobs are in Georgia

The BLS count of 49,870 administrative assistants is statewide. The metros with the most of that work are Atlanta, Augusta, Columbus and Savannah, which is where the median is set and where the upper quartile ($49,180 and above) is most often paid. Employers who could not hire locally and have filed with the Department of Labor are listed on the Georgia openings page; those filings are the ones already paying to bring people in, and housing or transport is often part of the offer.

What people get wrong about administrative assistant pay in Georgia

  • Quoting the mean. The BLS mean for Georgia is $20 an hour, pulled up by the top earners. The median ($19) is what the typical administrative assistant makes.
  • Comparing gross across states. A $39,220 offer in Georgia is $31,462 in hand; the same number in a no-tax state is $33,498.
  • Forgetting the employer's share of insurance. A job that pays $37,220 with full health coverage can beat one that pays $42,220 without it.
  • Treating the statewide median as the metro median. Atlanta pays differently from a rural county; ask for the figure for the place you are actually going.
