Manager pay in Minnesota after taxes: what you keep (2026)

The median manager in Minnesota earned $96,130 a year in May 2024, which is $46 an hour for a full-time year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Half of the 73,900 managers the BLS counts in Minnesota earned more than that and half earned less; the middle half of them sat between $62,520 and $140,830. That is the gross figure, before anyone takes anything. What you keep depends on Minnesota's tax, and Minnesota has a progressive state income tax with a top rate of 9.85%.

What the median manager keeps in Minnesota

For a single filer on the median $96,130, taking the standard deduction and no other adjustments:

LineA yearA month
Gross pay (BLS median)$96,130$8,011
Federal income tax-$12,990-$1,083
Social Security and Medicare (7.65%)-$7,354-$613
Minnesota state income tax-$6,628-$552
Take-home$69,158$5,763

The state line is 6.9% of gross at this salary, approximated at 70% of the top bracket, which is where a middle income lands in most progressive states. Health insurance, retirement contributions and local taxes are not in it either; they vary by employer and by city.

Where Minnesota ranks for manager pay

Of the 50 states, Minnesota ranks 32 of 50 on the gross median for managers. The highest-paying state is New Jersey at $149,990 and the lowest is Arkansas at $64,260. Gross rank is not take-home rank: a state with no income tax climbs several places once the state line is applied, and a high-tax state drops.

StateGross medianState taxTake-home
Minnesota$96,130$6,628$69,158
South Dakota$133,440$0$101,668
Wisconsin$113,170$6,060$81,714
North Dakota$93,290$1,633$72,155
Iowa$80,620$3,064$61,812

South Dakota, Wisconsin and North Dakota leave a manager with more at the end of the year than Minnesota does; South Dakota by about $32,510. Iowa pays less once tax is counted. Pay is one line; rent is the other, and a higher median in a metro with higher rent can leave you with less.

Where the manager jobs are in Minnesota

The BLS count of 73,900 managers is statewide. The metros with the most of that work are Minneapolis, St. Paul, Rochester and Duluth, which is where the median is set and where the upper quartile ($140,830 and above) is most often paid. Employers who could not hire locally and have filed with the Department of Labor are listed on the Minnesota openings page; those filings are the ones already paying to bring people in, and housing or transport is often part of the offer.

Minnesota also has a program that pay people to move in: Harmony new-home rebate ($5,000 to $12,000, for anyone building a new home in the city of Harmony). Each has a residence condition and a funding round; the amount is the program's own "up to" figure.

What people get wrong about manager pay in Minnesota

  • Quoting the mean. The BLS mean for Minnesota is $55 an hour, pulled up by the top earners. The median ($46) is what the typical manager makes.
  • Comparing gross across states. A $96,130 offer in Minnesota is $69,158 in hand; the same number in a no-tax state is $75,786.
  • Forgetting the employer's share of insurance. A job that pays $94,130 with full health coverage can beat one that pays $99,130 without it.
  • Treating the statewide median as the metro median. Minneapolis pays differently from a rural county; ask for the figure for the place you are actually going.
