How to transfer your Physical therapist licence to New Hampshire (2026)

Physical therapist work in New Hampshire is licensed at state level, by the New Hampshire Board of Physical Therapy. This page says what a physical therapist licensed or working in another state has to do to work in New Hampshire, in the order to do it, and what goes wrong when the order is reversed.

How the transfer works

Every state licenses physical therapists. The PT Compact lets a therapist with a licence in a member state buy a compact privilege to practise in another member state in days, without a second licence; outside the compact you apply to New Hampshire's board for licensure by endorsement with NPTE scores, licence verification and, in some states, a jurisprudence exam.

Exam: NPTE.

How long: days under the PT Compact; four to twelve weeks for endorsement. Fee: $100 to $400, plus a compact privilege fee where used; the current figure is on the licensing body's own site.

What to have ready before you move

  • NPTE score transfer through FSBPT
  • Licence verification
  • Jurisprudence exam if required

Start the paperwork before you give notice. Every week the licence is not done is a week you are not paid, and nothing in the process needs you to be in New Hampshire already.

What people get wrong

  • Assuming the compact works everywhere; both states must be members and your home licence must be in good standing
  • Not accounting for the jurisprudence exam

Who hires physical therapists in New Hampshire

Physical therapists in New Hampshire are hired by outpatient clinics, hospitals, home health, skilled nursing and travel therapy agencies. The metros with the most of that work are Manchester, Nashua and Concord. Employers who could not hire locally and have filed with the Department of Labor are on the New Hampshire openings page.

For the money side: the median physical therapist in New Hampshire earned $97,200 a year ($47 an hour) in May 2024 across 1,610 jobs, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and New Hampshire has no state income tax on wages. What that leaves you after tax is its own page.
