Allergies to varieties of ragweed, goldenrod, insecticides, related agricultural chemicals, etc., may affect worker’s ability to perform the work described herein. Citrus Harvest: Following their supervisor’s instructions, the worker will wear a picking sack over their shoulder and carry an 18-22 foot ladder from the truck or trailer to their assigned grove. Worker will position their ladder against desired tree according to their supervisor’s instructions. Ladder must be in secured position to prevent slipping, falling, and injury to themselves or other workers. Workers must take care not to break limbs, damage the tree, knock off fruit or interfere with other workers. Workers will remove fruit from the tree and place into their sack. When their sack is full workers will then empty their sack into fruit container located in the grove. Full sacks weight between 80 – 100 lbs, depending on fruit size, condition, and variety. Workers will then repeat until the entire tree is picked. Workers must be physically able to perform duties onto ladders, making repeated trips safely up and down the ladders carrying a full sack of fruit. A trained worker is required to harvest 6 tubs of 10 boxes each workday. Failure to meet this standard could result in disciplinary action including termination. Grove Maintenance: Workers involved in grove maintenance may be required to hoe trees, girdle, spread fertilizer, pick up roots and limbs, strip suckers or unwanted growth from trees, dig root suckers, knock fruit off trees, remove vines, lay irrigation pipe, repair and maintain drip system and strap and tie fruit trees. Workers must be physically fit and accustomed to working in hot and humid weather for extended periods of time. Duties include but are not limited to harvesting, trimming, planting, potting and debris removal. Large 20’-25’ high bamboo clumps are dug from field grown plants. The root balls are divided by hand using ax or saw. Plants are then potted in varying sized containers which normally do not exceed 100 pounds. They are then carried to a growing area. Working Team leader: Some workers may act as working team leaders. These workers will be chosen based on several factors including the workers performance and tenure. These workers will report to the supervisor. These duties may include monitoring or directing the work of causal seasonal workers. May operate citrus equipment as an incidental activity.
