LPN pay in Georgia after taxes: what you keep (2026)

The median LPN in Georgia earned $58,490 a year in May 2024, which is $28 an hour for a full-time year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Half of the 20,800 LPNs the BLS counts in Georgia earned more than that and half earned less; the middle half of them sat between $50,400 and $64,280. That is the gross figure, before anyone takes anything. What you keep depends on Georgia's tax, and Georgia has a flat 5.19% state income tax.

What the median LPN keeps in Georgia

For a single filer on the median $58,490, taking the standard deduction and no other adjustments:

LineA yearA month
Gross pay (BLS median)$58,490$4,874
Federal income tax-$5,035-$420
Social Security and Medicare (7.65%)-$4,474-$373
Georgia state income tax-$3,036-$253
Take-home$45,945$3,829

The state line is 5.2% of gross at this salary. Health insurance, retirement contributions and local taxes are not in it either; they vary by employer and by city.

Where Georgia ranks for LPN pay

Of the 50 states, Georgia ranks 41 of 50 on the gross median for LPNs, in the bottom ten. The highest-paying state is Washington at $79,700 and the lowest is Mississippi at $48,850. Gross rank is not take-home rank: a state with no income tax climbs several places once the state line is applied, and a high-tax state drops.

Georgia$58,490$3,036$45,945
Florida$60,080$0$50,258
North Carolina$61,380$2,609$48,693
South Carolina$59,050$2,563$46,868
Tennessee$54,530$0$45,798
Alabama$50,100$1,754$40,485

Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina leave a LPN with more at the end of the year than Georgia does; Florida by about $4,313. Tennessee and Alabama pay less once tax is counted. Pay is one line; rent is the other, and a higher median in a metro with higher rent can leave you with less.

Where the LPN jobs are in Georgia

The BLS count of 20,800 LPNs is statewide. The metros with the most of that work are Atlanta, Augusta, Columbus and Savannah, which is where the median is set and where the upper quartile ($64,280 and above) is most often paid. Employers who could not hire locally and have filed with the Department of Labor are listed on the Georgia openings page; those filings are the ones already paying to bring people in, and housing or transport is often part of the offer.

What people get wrong about LPN pay in Georgia

  • Quoting the mean. The BLS mean for Georgia is $28 an hour, pulled up by the top earners. The median ($28) is what the typical LPN makes.
  • Comparing gross across states. A $58,490 offer in Georgia is $45,945 in hand; the same number in a no-tax state is $48,981.
  • Forgetting the employer's share of insurance. A job that pays $56,490 with full health coverage can beat one that pays $61,490 without it.
  • Treating the statewide median as the metro median. Atlanta pays differently from a rural county; ask for the figure for the place you are actually going.
