What the work involves

Farson Farms is a row crop operation growing corn and soybeans, and the work under SOC 45-2091 — 100% of work performed is organized around the full crop cycle and the upkeep that supports it. In the springtime, fields are prepared for planting by attaching farm implements such as plows, discs, sprayers, or harvesters to tractors using bolts and hand tools, then operating tractors, planters, sprayers, and manure spreaders to prepare soil, plant crops, and apply sprays. The crop work includes engaging in planting, weeding, spraying, and harvesting activities, along with fertilizing, dusting, and spraying crops and applying fertilizer or pesticide solutions to control insects, fungus and weed growth, and diseases using hand sprayers. During the summer, equipment is inspected, adjusted, and given routine maintenance and repairs while mowing and general upkeep are performed on the farm, including clearing fence rows and trimming and removing trees as needed and maintaining yards and around the farm buildings. In the fall, grain is harvested and stored, with operation of equipment to harvest crops and loading and unloading crops or materials manually or using conveyors, handtrucks, forklifts, or transfer augers. Grain handling continues throughout the year as crops are moved to market, which includes weighing crop-filled containers, recording weights and other identifying information, loading crops and unloading crops, and driving pickup trucks to haul crops, supplies, and tools. The employer, at its sole discretion, may grant pay increases based on factors such as performance, longevity, and/or experience. Workers returning for a consecutive season will be paid at their previous season’s rate if that rate exceeds the current published rate. Job requires exposure to extreme outdoor temperatures, extensive pushing or pulling, extensive sitting or walking, frequent stooping or bending over, repetitive movements, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Must possess a valid, standard, non-commercial driver's license (e.g., Class C, D, R, E, F or 3 depending on state). Employee must have 3 months of verifiable experience.
