What the work involves
SOC 45-2093 — 100% of work performed. Employees will tend to cattle, cow/calf pairs, bulls, and yearlings through the contract period by preparing feed mixtures and distributing feed to animals, checking drinking-water supplies, and cleaning troughs, tanks, and watering equipment so livestock have the daily care needed across the herd. They will observe animals for illness, injury, distress, or changes in feeding behavior while counting, weighing, identifying, and sorting cattle into designated groups as spring calving progresses, the calves move to pasture, yearlings require attention, and the fall calving crop comes on. Employees will move animals between pastures, pens, barns, and handling areas, assist with breeding activities and pregnancy checks as directed, and monitor animals during birthing while providing newborn care. They will apply identification tags and assist with vaccinations or other prescribed animal-care procedures, separate animals requiring treatment or additional observation, and load and unload animals for movement or sale. To support the livestock operation, employees will clean pens, stalls, barns, chutes, and animal-handling areas, remove animal waste, replace bedding where required, repair fences, gates, livestock enclosures, and watering systems, and operate feeding equipment, tractors, loaders, or farm vehicles used in animal care. The employer, at its sole discretion, may grant pay increases based on factors such as performance, longevity, and/or experience. Employer may also, at its sole discretion, offer performance-based incentive bonuses that are not guaranteed and are determined by the employer.
