How to transfer your Esthetician licence to Mississippi (2026)

Esthetician work in Mississippi is licensed at state level, by the Mississippi Board of Cosmetology. This page says what a esthetician licensed or working in another state has to do to work in Mississippi, in the order to do it, and what goes wrong when the order is reversed.

How the transfer works

Every state licenses estheticians, with required hours ranging from about 300 to 1,500, which is the widest spread of any beauty licence. Reciprocity to Mississippi depends on whether your hours meet its minimum; where they do not, work experience may count or additional training is required. The law and rules exam is almost always required.

Exam: NIC esthetics exams in most states.

How long: two to eight weeks. Fee: $50 to $200; the current figure is on the licensing body's own site.

What to have ready before you move

• Licence verification
• Hours transcript
• Advanced certificates (laser, microneedling) and the state's rules on each

Start the paperwork before you give notice. Every week the licence is not done is a week you are not paid, and nothing in the process needs you to be in Mississippi already.

What people get wrong

• Assuming advanced services transfer; laser and injectables are regulated differently in every state
