Sales in West Virginia: licence, certification and what employers require (2026)

West Virginia does not license sales professionals: no licence for most sales; insurance, securities and real estate are licensed separately. This page says what a sales professional licensed or working in another state has to do to work in West Virginia, in the order to do it, and what goes wrong when the order is reversed.

How the transfer works

General sales roles are not licensed. Licensed sales (insurance, securities, real estate) follow their own rules. Nothing to file in West Virginia for a territory or account role.

What to have ready before you move

• A record of quota attainment
• References

Start the paperwork before you give notice. There is no West Virginia licence to wait for, so the only clock is the employer's.

What people get wrong

• Accepting a territory before checking the base and the commission plan in writing
