Occupational therapist pay in Oregon after taxes: what you keep (2026)

The median occupational therapist in Oregon earned $106,840 a year in May 2024, which is $51 an hour for a full-time year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Half of the 1,420 occupational therapists the BLS counts in Oregon earned more than that and half earned less; the middle half of them sat between $94,280 and $123,530. That is the gross figure, before anyone takes anything. What you keep depends on Oregon's tax, and Oregon has a progressive state income tax with a top rate of 9.9%.

What the median occupational therapist keeps in Oregon

For a single filer on the median $106,840, taking the standard deduction and no other adjustments:

LineA yearA month
Gross pay (BLS median)$106,840$8,903
Federal income tax-$15,346-$1,279
Social Security and Medicare (7.65%)-$8,173-$681
Oregon state income tax-$7,404-$617
Take-home$75,917$6,326

The state line is 6.9% of gross at this salary, approximated at 70% of the top bracket, which is where a middle income lands in most progressive states. Portland metro adds local taxes on higher incomes, which is not in the table. Health insurance, retirement contributions and local taxes are not in it either; they vary by employer and by city.

Where Oregon ranks for occupational therapist pay

Of the 50 states, Oregon ranks 2 of 50 on the gross median for occupational therapists, in the top ten. The highest-paying state is California at $119,470 and the lowest is North Dakota at $79,910. Gross rank is not take-home rank: a state with no income tax climbs several places once the state line is applied, and a high-tax state drops.

Oregon$106,840$7,404$75,917
Nevada$104,770$0$81,865

Washington$102,360$0$80,169
Idaho$88,470$4,689$65,709

Nevada, California and Washington leave an occupational therapist with more at the end of the year than Oregon does; Nevada by about $5,948. Idaho pays less once tax is counted. Pay is one line; rent is the other, and a higher median in a metro with higher rent can leave you with less.

Where the occupational therapist jobs are in Oregon

The BLS count of 1,420 occupational therapists is statewide. The metros with the most of that work are Portland, Salem, Eugene and Bend, which is where the median is set and where the upper quartile ($123,530 and above) is most often paid. Employers who could not hire locally and have filed with the Department of Labor are listed on the Oregon openings page; those filings are the ones already paying to bring people in, and housing or transport is often part of the offer.

What people get wrong about occupational therapist pay in Oregon

  • Quoting the mean. The BLS mean for Oregon is $52 an hour, pulled up by the top earners. The median ($51) is what the typical occupational therapist makes.
  • Comparing gross across states. A $106,840 offer in Oregon is $75,917 in hand; the same number in a no-tax state is $83,321.
  • Forgetting the employer's share of insurance. A job that pays $104,840 with full health coverage can beat one that pays $109,840 without it.
  • Treating the statewide median as the metro median. Portland pays differently from a rural county; ask for the figure for the place you are actually going.
